A PTL Moment / Peter Bierma

Quite an unexpected evening, indeed... heading home from another prodigious gig (4 hrs long) at 2a.m. on the 120 mile stretch from Nampa to my home in Twin Falls. A cold night, alone in the car, wide awake and alert, and oh so winter. Everything is fine, until what I assume is black ice and an untimely road bend send my car into a 75 mile an hour spin. I don't recover, the car goes off the edge of the road, down a medium slope, and barrel rolls probably twice. The car stops upside down, and I am okay. What either should have killed me or sent me into a panic was as calm as the snow underneath, as I heard God say to me during the roll, "Hang on, everything is going to be okay." And... it was! I rolled down (up?) the window, crawled out, grabbed for my phone, and called several people who didn't pick up the phone. That's really the end of the story in my mind, because that's what God did. But if you're curious about further details... alone in a snowy desert climate at 2a.m. is not safe for very long, so I made my way towards a gas station maybe a mile down the road. Turns out, another pickup truck 1/4 mile from me slid off as well! Thankfully they didn't topple, only spun off to a snowy, mud-stuck halt. I joined them and stayed warm while AAA pulled us out. Meanwhile, seemingly at random one of my bandmates called just to check in (ha!) about this time, at which point I told them the story, and they sent their brother who just happened to be a few miles behind where we were. They picked me up, drove me home, and things are good. Well, the car may not be so great, I don't really know. It'll be towed later today, after the wedding we're in this afternoon. Calm and protected amidst the chaos... PTL!
